Q: Which would you rather have, a 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R or a 2000 Ford Mustang Cobra R?
Im trying to choose between converting a 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-T into a 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R or converting a 2000 Ford Mustang Cobra into a 2000 Ford Mustang Cobra R. (Im only converting the exterior and interior not the drivetrain) Also does anyone know if www.sky-kit.com is a good company to purchase a Skyline from, that where im considering getting the Skyline GT-T from, its the 1999 for $24,000 with 60,000 kms under JDM stock.

A: The Mustang would be my choice because of the tons of available parts and the massive torque potential.

ok guys if you’ve seen my later posts i love cars and i take pride in building new ones, i just ordered and received a 2000 Ford Mustang Cobra R for 53,000 it came bone stock nothing to it, just for humor we all know they all come with the 4.6L 3V SOHC V8 well that isnt good enough i am thinking of pulling the supercharged 5.4L V8 out of my truck redoing the gears and tune and computer ecu setup and running it that way, i also have seen it is a very popular swap. my question is going to be though what aftermarket parts should i put into this? i already have a Whipple Supercharger on it thats it so far, makeing 15.0 PSI of boost i was thinking just letting ford take it over but anyone with better parts let me know thanks best answer goes to most thorough im me for pics of the car it is simply beautiful i even have pics of the swap

A: Well have you ever thought of twin turbo charging it? I built one for a customer and it made close to 850 whp.. alot more than what a supercharged 5.4 engine would make

Q: 1995 Ford Mustang COBRA-R, what would be a fair purchase/sell price?
This car is a TRUE cobra R. 1 owner. Only 250 made in 1995. The only down side to the car is that the owner was forced into having to use it as a daily driver for a bit so it has approx 40,000 miles. If you know about the car you know its not one you can find pricing at cars.com etc. The car is owned by a close friend of mine who is going to possibly have to sell it, so im trying to find info for him…

A: Reasonably? I wouldn’t offer more than around $5000 for it.

You may not consider it a fair sell price, but fair also takes into account the buyer’s idea of fair. And $5k sounds fair to me.

Even if you could price it out via cars.com, or KBB, etc….those are suggested prices…not the prices that people will actually pay.

Though, I suppose you’ll pick the answer that has the highest dollar value. So….I’ll offer you $45,000 for it. At that point, it’s no longer the least bit fair to me, but it’ll satisfy your wallet.

A: Cobra R’s I believe were only made twice, in ‘95 and ‘00. They had the same size rims front and back. Ford racing makes OE wheels for most cobra models. Just plug into “fordracing.com” and have a look around.

A: The Challenger was introduced in 1970 with two models:

BASE CHALLENGER
hardtop
SE formal hardtop
convertible

CHALLENGER R/T
hardtop
SE formal hardtop
convertible

The standard engine in the R/T was the 383 Magnum. Optional was the 440-4, 440 Six Pack, and 426 Hemi. The 340 was not available on the R/T, no matter what anyone tells you – they’re wrong.

The base Challenger could be had with the Slant 6 or the 318 standard. From there, you could get the 383-2 and the 383-4 (almost like an R/T incognito). The 340 also was available on the base Challenger (hardtop and ragtop only) as the 340 Performance Package . . . and this is where the T/A comes in.

As Dodge decided to offer the 340 package on the base Challenger, it only makes sense that the Challenger T/A package was offered on the base Challenger. This package – only available on the hardtop – came with a fiberglass hood similar to the 1969 A12 Super Bees and Road Runners, special striping, side-exit exhaust (except in CA, I believe), a special spoiler package, and a 340 engine with Six Pack carburetors, among other heavy-duty equipment. This model was produced to certify certain modifications legal for Trans-Am racing (get it? T/A? But Pontiac already dibs for the name). The front and rear tires were of different sizes – very unusual at the time – and was the best-handling Challenger of them all. Despite a 1971 advertisement showing the T/A would return, none were built.

Regarding your Mustang question, I’d say the CJ is equivalent to the Challenger’s Six Pack. Parts are much easier to find for the Mustang. The Boss 429 was practically hand-built, and in some ways it can’t be compared to the Challenger because of the modifications that were required for it to be built. However, bone-stock Boss 429 cars tended to disappoint road testers at the time because it wasn’t as fast as it looked (despite 13-second times, like a Hemi Challenger R/T). However, Boss 429s have been super-expensive for a very long time.

The 1972 Charger . . . depends on the model. There was the R/T replacement called the Rallye which had a 400 standard and could have a 340 and 440 optional (about 5 or so Six Packs were built before it was cancelled on the first week). You could also get the 440 on the SE. This was the first year for the low-compression engines, so 1971s tend to be more desirable but the 1972 have their own appeal and can still be fast.

Q: should Ford bring back the 351 cleveland or just give up trying to build a decent V8?
in Australia we have the Cobra R V8 block fitted to all our Ford V8’s with our own designed quad overhead cams and what a disappointing slug it is it needs at least 4000rpm to get moving and it wont rev much past 5000rpm and forget trying to bust the quarter mile in anything under 15.3 seconds (thats on the new GT Falcon!) but the Clevo on the other hand has lots of mods and large powerband to play with and i have personally revved the damn thing out to 6800rpm (fairly stock ported heads, 750 carb) with the power coming on at around 2000 – 2500rpm and it tapering off at around 6500rpm, so doesn’t it seem logical that they put the OHC on the Cleveland and bring it back before these fuel prices get to high to enjoy a nice V8?

A: I own a shop, a drag car & truck, and think this; I think Ford (and others) have come up with too little too late. I don’t think waiting until the barn has burned to the ground to call the fire department will fix the problem. As we all know; the price of fuel is forcing the companies to go in an unpredictable direction. They are all scrambling to make the vehicle that will go the most miles on the least amount of fuel. As for an engine that has that kind of power band (slug) is all in the grind of the cam. There are too many aspects to get in to on here, but in short; the engine’s power band is determined by the way the cam has been ground. A power band that is between 4,000 & 5,000 rpms is the way the cam has been set-up. Moving this around is the most common reason for all people who race to purchase an aftermarket cam in the first place. One must base the cam grind on many factors such as the vehicles weight, the ratio of the rearend, and the type of transmission being installed into the vehicle. Many aftermarket cams require the use of a stall converter to get the engine into its power band at the best engine rpm. The bore & stroke of the engine will also play an important role when installing a cam.
As for the 351 Cleveland, its a dead icon, and I doubt Ford will ever bring back any engine that will beat this one, but who knows? I for one, certainly would look forward to seeing a 351 Cleveland with overhead cams. It would be some engine.

Q: Will these wheels fit my 2003 Ford Explorer SPORT 4WD?
Hi guys, I own a 2003 Ford Explorer Sport 4WD V6. I’ve been contemplating on getting those Cobra R Replica’s, but they are quite expensive for my college ass budget! So I’ve been looking around for some cheap new/ used rims. I came across these rims called “Maxxim Wonders”. They yield the similar specs as the Cobra R’s and they are quite nice!

1) I was just wondering if these will fit my explorer?

The rims are 18×8.5 although the width is 8J (what’s that mean?). Offset is 15mm. 5×114.3. Seller claims it to fit the Ford Mustang, the Nissan 350z, and the Infiniti G35 coupe.

2) Will they be strong enough for my truck?

A: That all depends on what you really want to do. I wouldn’t consider going 4 wheeling across a rock infested course. You may not want to put them on a Race Track car. But every day driving shouldn’t be a problem.

Q: why doesn’t ford make the 5.4 dohc an option for mustangs?
i know its in the supercharged gt 500 and its a beast in the 2000 cobra r… but i think they should make it an option in maybe some kind of cobra in the future… oh and btw is the 2010 stang supposed to have a 5.0 dohc or is that in a limited producton or something

A: The biggest reason they don’t probably has to do with CAFE standards. It would eat more gas for sure and it would add weight. If it had an aluminum block that would be awesome but then you are making the car more expensive which doesn’t translate well in what is supposed to be an affordable sports car. Ford probably feels they are very competitive with the current 4.6 and why change things. The GT500 is a halo car, Ford probably doesn’t make a bunch of money on GT500’s but it attracts a lot of attention to the brand.

The 2010 Mustang GT will have basically what is now the Bullit motor. Possibly in 2011 the GT will receive the new 5.0 motor. Look for the Eco Boost V6 to make an appearance as well.

A: I would go for the TV / film related cars as they are easily recognisable.

Why not get a big dispaly case built and just rotate the collection?

Q: 1999 ford mustang for $5,000 with 120,000? (individual seller)?
i am looking to buy a 1999 mustang with 120000 miles on it for 5000 dollars. IT is all leather, very clean, has Cobra R wing, new brakes, blue colored, Audiobahn subs and amp, kenwood headunit, and strobing tailights. Most of the miles came on the highway because he had to drive for his ARMY workouts. Car is very good condition. He is leaving for Iraq and needs to get rid of it because he cannot store it. Should the price be lower or what? Is it a good deal. And how long, if he took good care of it will the car last? Another 8 years or more? I am also looking at a 1999 camaro for 4,500 dollars with 109,000 miles on it. Good deal?

A: I think the mustang is a little bit too expensive, they are not worth that much specially if they are already almost 10 years old, I would pay $4000 the most and likewise for the Camaro… good luck!

i own a 2000 ford mustang cobra SVT R, thats right i said a 2000 SVT R. it comes stock with roughly 385 hp with a 5.4l DOHC. i had it bored over 20% equivalent to a 427 and pushing over 430hp. i need and want more power im looking to put in a 351 CLEVELAND not a windsor with 2, 2 barrels bored over 20% ecu, ram air, and a 10lb NOS kit how much power will i get and will that bad ass engine fit? im not a gear head i only know what i drive and want to do which is about 3K. hateful comments will be reported.

A: the answer to your question is Yes it will fit.the horse power question is what size pistons are you gona use?what heads?what cam?you can make anywhere from 350 hp to 700 hp or a little more.

im paying insurence by myself and buying it myself.
is that a good first car?
im getting it in a year. so its gonna be lower apparently. and i can pay for it. i work 3 jobs to pay for this. im a not teen who has daddy for all my stuff. im to independent for that
mustangs dont count as a sports car in jeresy anymore. i checked. so insurence wont be as harsh

it’s a good car, if you can afford around 3000 dollars a year for insurance.
i just bought my first car in may, its used, but its a 2008 so its pretty new.
for a black 2008 honda accord coupe, my insurance is somewhere between 2400-2600 a year. i’m pretty sure the insurance for a new car is higher… so it may not be 3000, but i would have that much just in case. because if you get a ticket or in an accident, your rate will go up hundreds of dollars.
check it out on an insurance site and get a free quote. if youre like me, and under 18… its gonna be around mine most likely cause its a sporty car. but if youre older, you might be a better rate.
bottom line- if you can afford it, get it. if you are just scraping up enough money to buy it, dont-go used. i got a great deal on mine on ebay haha.

Brand new, it’s cheaper than a used Evo, but there still are plenty of tuner parts.

A: If your going to race and your going to leave your car stock the best choice there would be the Evo 8 by far. If your only going to be dragging then you could go with the camaro or the mustang (but only the cobra or a mach 1) or rx-7. Not the Neon or pontiac.

If you really have 40 grand to put down I would get the evo or the rx7. Theres lots of upgrades for the evo. If you do find a nice 2nd or 3rd generation rx7, then take out the rotary engine and put in an ls1. The v8 engine in a light body car, with a cold air intake a performance exhaust and some proper tuning you will be able to compete with almost anything.

But if your looking for a daily driver as well then just choose the Evo 8.

A: Wow, sorry bro you have gotten a lot of totally inaccurate answers here. If anyone out there wants to sell me a 1995 cobra R for $5,000 or $10,000 or even $20,000 email me right now and I will buy it from you today. The lowest amount you should be asking is $40,000. For the people out there that obviously dont know what a cobra R is, it is the top of the line mustang. Ford took the suspension and brakes out of there professional race cars and put it in the Cobra R. The Cobra R makes 300hp and 365tq all engine. It is a street legal race car. It has a race spoiler and front air splitter. It creates as much down force as todays corvette z06’s do. It came from the factory with everything that adds weight removed. It has no back seats, no a/c, no radio. There are very few cars on the road today that are faster around a track then the Cobra R is. No to mention that there were only 250 1995 Cobra R’s made. I would say ask $45,000 and go from there. I would imagine you end up getting between $33,000 and $38,000 for it just because of the high miles.

Additional Info—-
the 95 cobra R did not have a 5.0L engine it had a windsor 5.8L v8 engine.

The rims are 18×8.5 although the width is 8J (what’s that mean?). Offset is 15mm. 5×114.3. Seller claims it to fit the Ford Mustang, the Nissan 350z, and the Infiniti G35 coupe.

A: I would go for the TV / film related cars as they are easily recognisable.

Why not get a big dispaly case built and just rotate the collection?

A: At this stage, used 2008 Evo Xs can be purchased for as little as $32,000, and they can put the motor on just about anything on your list.

But the MazdaSpeed3 might make another interesting choice.. In factory trim, it’s down about 30 horses and 20 lb-ft of torque. But it’s also 400 lbs lighter.

Brand new, it’s cheaper than a used Evo, but there still are plenty of tuner parts.

But if your looking for a daily driver as well then just choose the Evo 8.

A: Mustang GT is powered by a 300hp, 4.6L SOHC V8

Shelby Cobra is powered by a 480hp, 5.4L DOHC with an Eaton supercharger. The Cobra also has a Tremec 6 speed transmission, whereas the GT has a 5 speed or a 4speed auto.
The Cobra has better brakes and suspension than the GT as well, along with different trim (both interior and exterior) and more sport oriented gauges.

Q: Where and how can I buy a Ford Shelby Cobra GT500?

A: Find someplace that deals in Classic cars. I mean rare classic cars. The problem with trying to find one is you may end up with a replica and it will be worth less then an original or a rebuilt Gt500. You can sometimes (if your really really really lucky) find a shell and you can build one, if you know what the originals had in them. Google search classic auto dealers/buyers and you should find your answer.

You will have to go through a lot of drag strip records for times from each to compare. There was one or two Cobras set up for drags. Both types of cars ran high ten’s or low elevens, oh and the Thunderbolts had been running for a year when the 427 Cobra came out..

This was asked already but I’m a confused because a few people answered who sounded informed but gave different information. So:

One guy says the Roush and the Saleen are kits.

Another guy says the GT, Shelby, and Cobra are all Ford models, the Roush and the Saleen are customized by outside companies.

Another guy says that the Shelby, Roush, and Saleen are outside companies that buy and rebuild Mustangs into the perspective cars with Ford’s permission, and even Ford dealers need special licenses to sell those cars. (so… you’re not buying a Ford Mustang, you’re buying a Shelby, or a Roush, etc?)

So anyone know which is which?

A: GT = factory Ford trim level which includes the V8
Cobra = 2004- Ford trim level with modifications done by SVT, Ford’s in house tuning division
GT500 = Shelby & SVT modified Mustang, 500hp

Shelby is an outside company but has very good relations with Ford

Roush and Saleen get along with Ford but I wouldn’t say they work as closely as Shelby does with Ford. They all work the same way. Take an original Mustang, put some new parts on it and sell it. At least with Roush you can buy parts are modify your own mustang yourself to being a Roush mustang, I think the same is true of saleen but I may be wrong.

Either way in my opinion the Ford Shelby GT500KR and Super Snake are infinitely better than a Roush or Saleen.

A: Yea, you can find GT500’s at the local dealer, but it’s slightly unlikely. Every now and then they will be there though. I will agree with… that other guy though. You should look into getting a Roush stage 3 or better. The Stage 3 GT is faster than the GT500, even though it has less bhp. Saleen would be the other option. I was looking at some of the other brands that were shown in here and ya know, I would stick with the 3 mentioned here. They are legendary names and are experts in what they do. The GT500 is one of the coolest cars possible to be on the street! Cooler cars are the King of the Road edition GT500, and the GT500 upgraded to Super Snake! I’d say look into Roush and Saleen before you get the Shelby, but ole Carroll does make some sweet cars And the Shelby GT is just a mustang with appearance packages… and a performance air intake!

A Viper with the V-10 cannot even duplicate a record that was set in 1966. 0 to 100 mph and back to zero in 12.7 seconds. The most sought after Collector car of modern History. The last car sold for 10.7 Million dollars with the small block 289 and weber carburetors.

Hello all,
I am debating wither or not I should trade my current car (04 Hyundai Tiburon GT) for another car. If I should decide to do so, it won’t be for a few months. I’m looking for a car that comes stock with a nice balance of speed and power, which all 3 below cars seem to have.

The Models are as follows:
00-02 Pontiac Firebird Trans AM Coupe—–305Hp, 335 ft lb Tq V8
00-02 Chevrolet Camero Z-28 Coupe—310Hp, 335 ft lb Tq V8
00-03 Ford Mustang GT Coupe——-260Hp, 302 ft lb Tq V8

One thing to keep in mind, the mustang has a mass amount of after market upgrades, many parts, and the lightest of the other two, needing less pull to get going. Not immediatly, I plan on adding a turbo/super which should make a mustang hit 375ish Hp, and idk on the others. All cars are V8’s, I don’t care much about gas mileage, might aswell get my kicks before everything hits hybrids. Also, if I could get ahold of a Mustang Cobra/Shelby I would just get it, but there a lil more pricey.

Normally, I would be wanting some imported V6 tuned up, but costs are a little more than I like. Example, my top 3 wanted cars are 1. Toyota Supra (96 TT), 2. Mitsubishi 3000Gt/Dodge Stealth (same thing 96 TT), 3. Nissan 300zx (96 Turbo). Yea, something about 96 went right. Anyway, the gt and 300zx run around 8k each, then its going to be about 15k to upgrade them to a nice running ability, supra’s run around 15k then another 15k to get them show room status.

Mustang, 5-12k, plus 1k for a super charger, maybe new suspension for another grand or two.

The “other” in the title is up to whom ever. Please first vote for which of the 3, then if you have a suggestion you think would be better or same. Please keep all suggestions around 10k or less, as my trade in is only worth around $8200.
Add to this, do these have many maulfuctions, and gas isn’t all that bad, $3 per gallon, with my tiburon getting about 20mpg I fill up once every 2 weeks (really just use for college). And a fill up 14.5 gallons costs about 25 dollars.
Another detail, I checked my listed cars, they get 18 mpg city 25 highway. My current V6 tiburon get 19-20 city, 28ish highway. It wouldn’t make too much difference, probably save gas since I live in WV (moutain state) and have to floor it in my tib to make it up a hill. *tib 0-60 in 8.9 seconds, quarter mile in 18-19 seconds*

A: if i was you i would go for the camaro z28, because its simply a better performance car then the mustang, the trans am is the same as the camaro, even though the mustang is easier to modifiy, here are some numbers for these cars.

2000-2002 camaro z28 0-60 in 5.1 secs
2000-2002 trans am 0-60 in 5.1 secs
2000-2003 mustang gt 0-60 in 5.6 secs

so dude if i was you i would go for the camaro z28, its just me, if your looking for style get the mustang, if your looking for performance, get the camaro, think about it dude, you will get looks from alot of people if you drive a camaro, cause i drive one, and everybody has a mustang, get something thats rare now, good luck in buying your car dude.
