Q: Selling my 1996 Ford mustang cobra convertible.?
I have decided to sell my car and I’m not sure how much to ask for. It’s a Ford Mustang Cobra convertible. It’s white with black leather interior. I was looking for input. Thank you.
A: We need more info like miles and condition. Do you have a service history?
This is not a run of the mill Mustang, the Cobra convertible was rare so you have that going for you. And 1996 was the first year for the 305 hp 4.6 DOHC engine which was used up until 2004. It’s a desirable car to have. I’ve seen 1996 Cobras sell from as low as $7,000 to over $20,000 for clean cars with low miles. Depends on miles and condition. Check NADA.com and KBB.com for values. Also check the completed items on Ebay for a real world idea.
Q: Wanna sell my 2003 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Convertible.Where is the best place to advertise on line?
A: Go where the guys/men are… to sell a car like that… find them locally — is my first thought. You want older men, or men with money if you want the best dollar return… if there’s a local country club, try to send/post a message there (to buy for their son/daughter, as a grad present?)… then, explore local newspapers/cost, because you get the most/best exposure (still)… national websites may/may not work shorter term and can attract all sorts of goofs/losers that really want to talk more about the Car & their thoughts about it, etc. than buy it. Ebay and autotrader (edmunds?) are options.. I’d check to see if that cable TV show (Speed) that sells the classic cars allows either free or paid classifieds… with a car of this sort of value — you can test the waters with the national, local free sites… but, spending $300-600 in ads may pay off, with more focused & closer buyers (that can see & pay for the car). Make sure you have a man or two around, whenever people show to see/pay for the car.. to avoid any unpleasantries and GL.
Q: 2001 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra convertible?
The automatic lights on the rear view mirror wont turn off after i lock the car. I am afraid it is going to drain all my battery… What cud b wrong ????
A: Perhaps by accident, the interior switch at the mirror was turned on. When its turned off it may go out. Otherwise, some sort of short. If you could figure out which fuse its on you could remove it to keep your battery from draining, until you get this resolved.

Q: Need specifics on a Ford Mustang…?
I am trying to purchase a vehicle for my husband as a surprise for his 30th birthday. I used to sell cars, so I know the game but I need more info about the type of car I’m looking for. He talks about wanting a 2003-2004 Ford Mustang Cobra Convertible. Here are my questions:
1: If it’s a Cobra…does that automatically make it a SVT or is that some type of upgrade?
2: Why do some of the Cobra’s have a mustang emblem in the grill and others have a cobra?
3: Is a Roush a higher/better trim level than a Cobra?
4: I will be on my own when I buy this vehicle and may end up buying it from a private seller several states away. HOW DO I KNOW THAT I’M GETTING A COBRA AND NOT A GT W/ EMBLEMS & BODY KIT? How can I verify that it’s actually a Cobra?
5: Is there anything else about trim levels, etc that I need to know about?
6: Why are these cars priced so much higher (@ $7k) than NADA book values? (It’s all of them, not just a few.)
Thanks for any help you can offer!
What is mystichrome paint? I have noticed several vehicles claiming to be this color but they appear either silver, blue or purple in the pictures. Is this a factory chameleon paint color that twists between those 3 colors? Was that an additional charge or make the car “more special” because of the color?
Well, Nick…I sold Chevrolet and Oldsmobile’s in 1999, so my knowledge of Ford Mustang’s is a little shallow. Thanks for YOUR EXTREMELY HELPLESS answer. I hope you enjoyed your 2 points.
The word “pro” is not in my question anywhere nor did I insinuate it. I simply stated that I had sold cars because I didn’t need any advice on how to buy a vehicle out of state or paperwork or haggling a price. I had questions about the specific vehicle, not the process of buying the vehicle.
A: It seems that some of your questions have been answered, but I’d like to clarify and put all the answers in the same place for you.
Q. If it’s a Cobra…does that automatically make it a SVT or is that some type of upgrade?
A. Yes, at least as far as ‘93-Present cars go, and certainly in the case of the ‘03/’04 Cobras
Q.Why do some of the Cobra’s have a mustang emblem in the grill and others have a cobra?
A. As someone said, the Mustang in the grill is standard on all Cobras. Period. If it has a Cobra in the grill, then someone changed it…. which is fine, but it can certainly still be a “real” Cobra if it has a horse in the grill. That’s how they were made.
Q. Is a Roush a higher/better trim level than a Cobra?
A. Cobras are built by Ford. Roushes are built by Roush Performance using MOSTLY Mustang GT’s. Roush built some V6’s in the 99-04 bodystyle, but most were built from GT’s. Even the “Stage 3″, “360R”, “380R”, and “440A” Roushes make less ACTUAL horsepower than a STOCK ‘03 or ‘04 Cobra, and have weaker engine internals because they are from a GT. That being said, you won’t be doing your husband a favor by buying him a Roush over a Cobra if that is what he wants. The only 99-04 Roush that can truly match the Cobra is a “Roush Cobra”. For ‘03-’04, Roush made just a HANDFULL of Roushes that started out as Cobras… in fact, there were 20 or less ever built, so they are likely to command a premium and be difficult to find. You are probably not interested in that, but that’s just a bit of trivia or in case you happen to see one. As with any Roush, you can put the car’s VIN number into the Roush website and they will tell you if the car is truly a Roush.
Q: I will be on my own when I buy this vehicle and may end up buying it from a private seller several states away. HOW DO I KNOW THAT I’M GETTING A COBRA AND NOT A GT W/ EMBLEMS & BODY KIT? How can I verify that it’s actually a Cobra?
A: I would recommend getting a VIN number and using that to confirm that it is a “real” Cobra before you bother traveling that far to see a car. In the “source” section, I attached a link to a Ford website where you can type in the VIN and it will tell you what the car truly is… or should be. Even simpler than that… the 8th character in the VIN number should be “Y” if it is a 2003-2004 Cobra, because their engine is unique.
Q: Is there anything else about trim levels, etc that I need to know about?
A: There really aren’t any trim level differences among ‘03/’04 Cobras. The only “special” ‘03-’04 Cobras are the 2003 10th Anniversary ones which have charcoal wheels and Black/Red interior. They are only available in Black, Red, and Silver. Also, there is the Mystichrome, which I will address later.
Q: Why are these cars priced so much higher (@ $7k) than NADA book values? (It’s all of them, not just a few.)
A: It’s simply supply and demand. The value of these cars has been holding steady, no matter what NADA or KBB may say. To get a clean, low mileage ‘03-’04 Cobra, it’s probably going to cost you mid-20’s.
Q: What is mystichrome paint? I have noticed several vehicles claiming to be this color but they appear either silver, blue or purple in the pictures. Is this a factory chameleon paint color that twists between those 3 colors? Was that an additional charge or make the car “more special” because of the color?
A: Mystichrome Paint was available as a color option in 2004. Just like you guessed, it is a “chameleon” paint job that typically fluctuates between green, blue, and purple. Also, the seats and other interior parts got the same treatment. There was a price increase for the paint of around $3650 when new. Now, as the other answerer’s post said, there was a “Mystic” Cobra built in 1996. The idea is the same, but they are different cars and the paint is similar, but not the same.
___________
Hopefully this has been of significant help to you. Good luck with your purchase. I’m sure your husband will be very grateful.
Q: does any one know the weight of a 1998 ford mustang cobra?
I also need the horsepower and torque, for both the coupe and convertible
A: Coupe wieghts 3393lbs. dont know the convt. wieght. both have 305hp and 300ft-lbs.
Q: Should i buy this 1995 ford mustang convertible? Need info and advice.?
Would you buy this car.
it is a 1995 ford mustang convertible with a 3.8 liter v6.
I don’t believe this car is a GTS or a cobra.
Pros
custom paint (red with black side strips.)
new top.
17 inch rims
air bags
in my price range (seller is asking 3900 but will give it to me for 3500)
shocks feel good
has a sports car feel
Cons
paint on hood is begining to fade
stock stereo system
tires need to be replaced (seller says he can get me a good deal on new tires)
leather is severly cracked(seller also says that he can get that fixed.)
Brakes are spongy and may need to be replaced in the near future.
missing rear spoiler.
headlights look like they have cateracts (they are cloudy looking but do work)
the car has 148000 miles on it.
please yahoo answers tell me if this is a worthy buy. if you have ever owned one of these cars before please tell me about it.
how well does this car do on gas with this much mileage?
another con was that the air conditioning did work well but seller says he can fix that as well.
i meant didn’t work well
engine does sound good
my dad blew it for me when he said that i have 3500 to spend and now the sales man is expecting to get that much. so we probably won’t buy now but i don’t know
A: well to start out, i wouldn’t buy a ford if i had a gun to my head, check the frame for rust, if it is missing the rear spoiler, it may have been wrecked… check into that. a 6 cylinder probably get around 20mpg, thats what my monte carlo gets. the car is not a shelby gt or a gts if it is a 6cyl, they have small block v8s in them. it has a sports car feel because it is a sports car. 148,000 miles is not bad, brakes are an easy fix, shop around for tires, buy seat covers for the leather, it will save you alot of money. overall it sounds like a decent car, ask him if he’ll take 3200 for it. the first rule of car buying is always be ready to negotiate.
Q: What is a reasonable price to sale my Ford SVT Cobra Mustang?
2001 black, convertible, excellent condition except a few small chips on the hood from the previous owner, cold air intake from K and N. Ford MACH 5 sound system. Everthing else is all stock. 73K miles.
I went throught the whole car and change out all of the fluids because they seemed to be a little old. I went and did the full tune up, change all the filters through out. I intended on keeping this car but now we have a baby on the way and is now pointless for my wife to even try to get in it.
Long story short, I bought it from a dealership, paid too much, tried to treat it like a baby and now it’s time to sale. Help me find a price to sale in Southern California.
A: First question, do you owe on it? If so, than that is your bottom selling point (unless your upside down). I know its going to seem dissapointing, but KBB says its worth about 14,800. I used the good price because I’ve yet to see a car with 73k that in my eyes was excellent. I baby my cars too, but 73k of driving will put some wear on the exterior of any well maintained vehicle especially a vert. I used San Diego as the city, so who knows. The problem with your car (not that its really a problem) is that it looks like a “Terminator” but isn’t supercharged. I’d put it at 17 and see if you get any bites. The 03-04’s are fetching 25k so maybe you’ll find someone who wants the look but not the extra sticker price.
Q: Does anyone know what I can buy to stop the rear window in my convertible from leaking?
When it rains the back of my convertible collects water. The bottom right of the window is separating from the convertible. The gap is only 2 inches of unsealed window. Is there any sealant I can apply to seal the rear window found on a 98 Ford mustang cobra convertible? Please no answers consisting of: taking it into a dealership or convertible shop. I just need the best or recommended sealant for the convertible found at any auto store. I asked a few auto part stores and received replies of no knowledge. Points to best answer with background or knowledge.
A: Do you want it repaired correctly or just cobbled together? A shop can probably repair it for less than you think. It won’t cost anything to get an estimate. Auto parts stores don’t deal with things like this on a regular basis. That is why they don’t know what to do.
Q: How many miles will a 93 ford mustang run for?? please help!
Im lookin to buy a 93 ford mustang gt convertible from this guy but im really confused. this mustang has around 120k miles on it, and it has a rebuilt engine. this guy says he is the second owner, and bought it from an old man. he has put many cobra parts on it he tells me too. it looks really nice and is a stick shift and is only 3500 dollars. it has a 1600 dollar sound system, really nice rims and alot more. All over the internet i read about how people say how good mustangs are and i love them! but my family and my uncle who is a car salesman say that they are bad and break down. is this true? is a mustang worth it???
sorry for the long question =P
A: No it is not true that “all” Mustangs break down. Only ones that are driven too hard and not maintained properly. Mine is at 135,000 miles and has absolutely no problems. I drive it aggressively, but I maintain it properly.
As for the one you’re looking at.. I’d say go for it, if you like the way it looks, but I’m suspicious of the engine. Maybe have it checked out by a shop first if you can. If you go ahead and buy it, just accept you may have to spend some money on the engine. If the car is in good shape, it could be worth it even if you have to spend some money. The Fox-body style Mustangs are going up in value, because they’re getting older and a little rarer in good shape. More and more are beat to hell and not worth buying. If this is a good looking car, I’d get it.
Q: What is included in the factory 0-60 times?
My 99 ford mustang cobra convertible’s factory 0-60 time with the “fix” I believe is supposed to be around 5.6 seconds. I just tested it by myself with a stopwatch “which is accurate” and got a time of around 8 to 9 seconds. Now what i had was a full tank of gas, I wasn’t powershifting, and I wasn’t dumping the clutch at REAL HIGH rpm’s. So as I said, what’s all included in the factory 0-60 times?
I guess a big part of my question is: does it include a full tank of gas? Half tank? Does it matter?
A: as fast as you can…
Q: Whats all included in the factory 0-60 times?

A: As the other person mentioned the cars used are new and are driven by professional drivers on a closed course. The drivers will use different launch techniques and shift points until they are able to obtain the best time. It is not uncommon for several different drivers to drive the same car to be able to utilize the talents of the most accomplished driver. Don’t be at all surprised that you are not able to duplicate the statistics published for your vehicle. With some additional practice, trying different launch techniques (dumping the clutch at high rpm is not always the best thing to do), different tires and shifting styles you could probably improve your stated time by a second or more.
Q: I was deciding on what to buy a 2010 ford mustang gt silver w/blk racing stripes and hood scoop?
What should i buy a hard top or convertible i don’t like the convertible roof but maybe it will still look good in convertible with the top on
Or should i go for the KILL and get the COBRA that cost around 15,000 more even though it will kill on payments
Or just wait or go for something else
A: Buy the Coupe but get the Glass roof!
It’s the best of both worlds!
You have seen the glass roof, haven’t you?!?!?
{■ Optional on V6 Premium and GT Premium models ■ Tinted, high-performance safety glass helps keep the cabin cool and deflects ultraviolet radiation – defending
the integrity of interior trim and fabric ■ Includes a manual, retractable, built-in shade ■ A transparent acoustic layer helps reduce noise, vibration and harshness.
EUPHORIA – 24/7/365 It’s awesome. The available, see-through glass roof presents a lush panorama of constantly changing
skies and cityscapes. Wherever, whatever the weather. Enjoy the show.}

A: They are very reliable if you have the money to fix them all of the time.—They also guzzle gas like Cadillacs.
I love Mustangs; but they are mainly for richer people to show off.
