Q: buying used Mustang Cobra, help?
I am buying a 1997 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Coupe with the engine from a 04 Cobra. What problams should i look for when i inspect the car? are there any problams that are commen with this car? thancks for your help.

A: quite a few mustangs have swapped in the cobra (terminator) engine, because it is so very strong and likely one of the best engines ford has produced in terms of quality of internal components, and overall performance.

this can be an excellent purchase, and because the engines stand up to a lot of hard driving they are quite dependable.

as answerer Vipassan said have a pro shop ck it out…..
do a full ck including compression test.
basic questions:
-engine swap accompanied by swap of the t-56 6 sp transmission? and was the transmission upgraded to stronger spline??
-what clutch is the car running
-is it running stock supercharger, or has it been replaced and with what??
-what other installations have been done on this car to manage the power from the cobra engine??
-has the car had a custom tune of the engine (if so talk to that shop)

lastly MAKE SURE to see build identification to confirm it is a cobra engine! (lots of clones out there).

this can be a 1st rate car, if all cks out.

when you have time get on http://www.svtperformance.com/
its an owners forum for performance mustangs, register and then get onto the forum for 03/04 terminators (and look for “terminator talk”)
there is very extensive FAQ available there that will basically answer every question you might have about the terminator engine.

any other questions….the guys at svt will quickly help you out……

Q: How much insurence will lt cost me if i bought a used 2007 mustang cobra?
age 17

A: Help yourself – you can check your quotes in internet, for example here – autoinsurance.noneto.com

Q: Used Ford Mustang GT500 Cobra 2007, Thinking of buying, what should the Price be?
I tried to use Blue book and it said they could not get a price on one of them. Ford dealer wants $40,299. That still very close to the price for a new one is. It was like new really, but its way over price me and my dad and even the sales thought. What do you think the price should be?
10,000 on it

A: I would deffinately not pay more then $36,000. I can find a bunch from private sellers that have half the milage and they are asking between $35,000 and $38,000. If I were you, I would take a look at private sellers. Since you will be buying a car that has so few miles on it and you buy from an adult you know the car wont be abused and the factory warranty will still be present. Not only will you find a car for a lot less but on top of that you will save thousands because you wont have to pay sales tax. You are probally looking at saving at least $5,000 by going with a private seller.

Q: Where can I find a rim for a 2003 Cobra Mustang, new or used?

A: http://www.pullapart.com/
they are reasonably priced too.

Q: How much does a 1997 Mustang Cobra Engine cost?
I need to know because I want to drop a Cobra engine in my mustang GT. Also what transmission does the 97 Cobra use?
I cant look it up on ebay cause im at school right now

A: They go for around $2500-$4500 depending on year and mileage. The 97 Cobra came with a T-45. The T-45 is also found on all 1996- mid 2001 GTs (manual transmissions of course). If you said what year and what transmission your GT is it would help.

Q: Is a 2004 Mustang Cobra an ok car to use everyday and depend on?
It’s either that or a 04′ 350z which I know is reliable but I want a Cobra more :)

A: Yes, very.

I drive my 2003 Cobra everyday, many many times a day, and it pulls like no tomorrow.
Go with the Cobra..It’ll wax 350s, 370s, S2Ks, whatever you can throw at it, and it will look, sound, and run mean as hell.

I don’t regret anything with my Cobra.

Q: Where can i find a mustang cobra engine online for cheap?
Is there a website, where they sell re manufactured Cobra 32v engines? or used? thank you! anything is helpful

A: Try these places:

http://www.clickclickracing.com/forums/index.php

or

http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/index.php

Q: Anybody got some used 99-04 mustang GT or Cobra parts thats just sittin around….especially longtube headers,
like long tube headers, side exhaust, gt side scoops, body kits, throttle body spacers, turbos, underdrive pulleys, etc. I live in south carolina….so i dont wanna drive a million miles :)
also….if ur dad, mom, sister, or brother has a stang thats a V8 but its a junker and it sits around….let me know asap :)

A: we have parts but we are near boston ,.. kinda far to drive

Q: can i use the Cobra brake calipers on my 1998 mustang (not a Cobra)?
i mean the calipers with the running horse logo. is it possible to fit them to a Mustang which is not a Cobra. will this require a lot of extra work?

A: No they should swap over nicely. What year is the cobra?

Q: Just wondering what is the wire thickness on a 2001 mustang cobra headlight stock wire harness?
What gauge wire is used? 12 g , 14g, or 16g. Trying to get brighter lights and don’t won’t to burn up the wires.

A: if u have a wire crimper or if u dont go by 1 for $1 and it has all the gauge thicknesses on the top of it so u can messure them its an awesome $1 investment

Q: use 98 mustang gt/cobra parts for 98 grand marquis?
can i use mustang parts on my 98 grand marquis. i would really appreciate a ford/mercury mechanic to help me with this. i have a KN air filter and Dual flowmaster exhaust but would like to boost the horsepower more, but here are no parts for my car. i know the car is old but i just hit 70,000 miles (12 years old not bad huh) and it runs great but these cars have been under-horsed from the factory(200hp) especially considering its weight. I dont have the expendable income for supercharger or turbo but anything else goes. i would really love the input. thanks

A: It depends on the part. Some parts probably are transferable but I would recommend checking the Ford part numbers to see if they are. You could also check out a Mercury/Grand Marquis forum (check out the link) to see if anyone else is using Mustang parts.

Q: How do you get bad gas out of 2007 Mustang Cobra?
It only has about 2 gallons in it. Should i try to put more gas in to dilute it, or try to use a fuel additive? Car will not start.
It is a 2004 Mustang Cobra, not 2007

A: Siphon it.
Get a long hose and push down into the bottom of your tank.
Yep, you’ll probably get a little gas in your mouth when you start sucking it out.
What ya do is have a soda to rinse your mouth with and put that end of the hose below the bottom of the gas tank.
Since more gas will be in the line below the tank, it will keep flowing.
When you first start and gas starts coming out, you can put your thumb over the end of the hose if it doesn’t let air in. Then this will give you a little time to direct the flow.

If it only has about 2 gallons total in the tank, it’s possible that it might below the level of the pick up for your fuel pump.

Q: where can i buy an engine for a Shelby Cobra GT500 mustang?
I need to buy a Shelby gt500 cobra engine. I have looked and looked and can’t find one. I know there like 15 grand new but I don’t care. I can be new or used
The year model doesn’t matter either. Thanks

Q: How much can I talk the dealer down on a used Cobra?
I’m looking at a 2001 Mustang SVT Cobra at a dealership. I test drove it. It runs great. 48000 miles. Its very clean. The only thing I dont like is that they took out the front leather seats and put ugly V6 mustang seats in made out of cloth.
Any ways they had it listed at $13500. Then they dropped the price down to $13000. The blue book.com says its worth about $11000 from a private seller. But there are not very many cobras around here. I spend about 10 hours a week just driving around looking for them and check online classifides daily.

What kind of offer should I give them? What can I offer that wont make me look like an idiot. I really dont want to pay more that KBB.com lists its worth because I will have to resell in about a year and I want to lose as little money as possible. If I dont take this car…there may not be another one like it for a month or 2.

What would you realistically do?
They ask $13000 + tax and all the dealer fee stuff
I dont want to pay over $11000 total including tax and dealer fee stuff
Is it likely I can get them down that much?
I’m probably selling it in a year because right now I’m just working full time and enjoying my life. I decided to start college in exactally 1 year. I want to have fun with my last “free” year until i’m old. That includes owning my dream car.

A: Don’t be afraid to make any offer. Start a little under what you are willing to pay and come up to your top price. Example would be if you want to pay 11000 offer 10000 and see what he says. The worst that can happen is he will say no. I once got a car listed for 11500 for 8900!

Q: do i need higher octain to run 7pounds of boost on my 97 mustang cobra?
what happens if i dont use higher octain?
how can i find octaing boost that could give me 98 octain cause all the octain ive seen is like 11points= 1octain

A: You don’t need 98 octane! There are literally THOUSANDS of people who run that much or MORE boost on their 4.6L Mustangs that run on 91/93 Octane (whichever is the highest pump gas octane available in your area). Simply run 91/93, and have a quality shop do a dynotune on the car once the supercharger/turbo is installed and you’ll be fine.

There’s a 2001 4.6L Mustang in my garage right now that’s been running 8-9 psi and 93 octane for probably 20,000 miles now. It’s all in the tune, so make that a priority.
