Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, featuring April 18: Please watch out

The latest ranked online playlist for Gran Turismo 7 is now live, and once again the dominant Mazda Atenza Gr.4 will be used.

It’s the start of a new week, and that means the Gran Turismo 7’s sports mode daily race schedule has been updated with a forest list of ranked online races.

Again, there are three races themed around performance balance. This means that car tuning is prohibited. With launch weeks now a distant memory, perhaps BoP-only racing, much like GT Sport, will remain the standard format for the foreseeable future.

This week also sees another Gr.4 race, so it’s time to dust off that Mazda Atenza again – or Mazda 6 outside of Japan – as the dominating sedan once again takes the laurels. We expect a BoP update very soon if GT Sport was anything to go by.

Without further ado, here’s what’s in store for the next seven days of competitive Gran Turismo 7 online racing and the cars we’d be selecting for each event.

DAILY RUN A

Gran Turismo 7, Sport Mode, DAILY RACE A, Volkswagen Scirocco

Some things never change, like my love for a slow car associated with the Brand Hatch Indy circuit in a ranked Gran Turismo race. It’s the perfect recipe for learning the ropes of Sport mode and increasing your driving rating.

This week everyone will be in the same ’10 Volkswagen Scirocco R – the hot 252bhp front-drive hatchback coupe sorely missed by enthusiasts after the company now produces the T-ROC convertible instead. Oh dear.

A lap of less than 55 seconds should guarantee a solid grid position, but that’s easier said than done. Suppressing wheel spin exiting Druids and Graham Hill Bend is mission critical.

A quick note: When you buy this car new, it comes with Sport Hard tires, but this race only allows Comfort Soft rubber. The Tuning Shop has them for just 1,600 credits.

Single car choice: Volkswagen Scirocco R ’10 (Brand Central, 51,500 Credits)

DAILY RACE B

Gran Turismo 7, Sport Mode, DAILY RACE B, Mazda Atenza Gr.4

The race using Gr.4 this week is race B, as opposed to the longer race C last week. That means relatively fast and grippy GT4 race cars, but a five-lap sprint.

The Autodromo Nazionale Monza is the venue, so in the race staying with the leading pack and the slipstream is the key factor in a successful race.

Hard tires and low wear mean the only strategy is to go as fast as possible every lap.

Top speed should be the defining characteristic when choosing a car, but again the rankings are dominated by the Mazda Atenza Gr.4. Alternative choices are the Bugatti Veyron Gr.4 and McLaren 650S Gr.4, but this four-wheel drive Traxion The Mazda’s traction cannot be usurped at present.

Recommended car: Mazda Atenza Gr.4 (Brand Central, 350,000 Credits)

DAILY RACE C

Gran Turismo 7, Sport Mode, DAILY RACE C, Subaru WRX Gr.3

This week’s longest hopper race takes place at the Red Bull Ring, nestled in the Austrian mountains. You can use any Gr.3 car you want, as long as you use the Racing Hard tire.

The track limits on the exit of Niki Lauda Kurve and in the final corner will need to be maintained – it may be too easy to put all four wheels off the track and end up with a penalty.

With fuel consumption up 10x, keeping an eye on your levels will be crucial. Do you go as fast as you can and draw from the pits, or do you conserve all the time? Both could be viable depending on your personal preferences and the amount of traffic around you.

For this race, there are several car options that will be successful. The now famous Peugeot RCZ Gr.3 will hold you in good stead, but its relative lack of straight-line speed could leave you vulnerable to something like the Hyundai Genesis Gr.3.

With all that in mind, the Subaru WRX Gr.3 seems to strike a nice balance, and it’s the one we recommend.

Recommended car: Subaru WRX Gr.3 (Brand Central, 450,000 Credits)
